What is Multimedia Learning?
Multimedia learning refers to the systematic use of various media formats (text, images, audio, video, animation) to enable more effective knowledge transfer and better understanding among students. In higher education, where complex concepts are often addressed, multimedia makes it possible to present content in ways that better align with different cognitive styles and learner needs (Mayer, 2009; Clark & Mayer, 2016).
It is grounded in insights from cognitive psychology, which emphasise the limited capacity of working memory. Because of this limitation, information overload can significantly reduce the effectiveness of learning (Sweller, 1994).
