Digital identity encompasses all the information that can be found about a person on the internet—from email addresses and social media profiles to behaviour patterns, which may include political views, location data, or even shopping habits. Every time we use digital tools, we leave a digital footprint that can be used, misused, or even permanently stored without our knowledge. Managing this identity involves strategies such as using strong and unique passwords, enabling two‑factor authentication, regularly checking privacy settings on online platforms, sharing personal information carefully, deleting unnecessary accounts and digital traces, and similar practices.
In the context of education, this is especially important because teachers and educational staff not only manage their own digital identities but often also handle student data. Their responsibility also includes educating students and pupils about safe and responsible behaviour in the digital world.
