In the previous chapters, you have been introduced to the basic determinants of e-learning as a new educational paradigm and the changes it brings to the roles of teachers and students. The following activity is aimed at connecting these theoretical starting points with your own teaching experience, where the offered literature will serve as a basis for reflection and analysis of the possibilities of applying digital approaches in teaching practice.
After carefully reading Chapters 1 and 2 of the book Bates, T. (2019). Teaching in a Digital Age: Guidelines for designing teaching and learning, submit your notes (up to 300 words) in which you will demonstrate your understanding of the content and your ability to connect the theory with your own teaching practice. You can use parts of these notes in the discussion activity that follows this activity.
In your notes, focus in particular on the following questions:
- What do you think are the new ideas you learned?
Describe which thoughts, concepts or examples from the text were completely new or surprising to you.
Consider why these ideas seem important to you and how they change your understanding of teaching, learning, or the role of the teacher.
Give at least one specific example from the text that made you think.
- How can you relate what you read to your own teaching?
Think about your teaching practice to date: what you already do similarly and what you could improve.
List specific activities, methods, or approaches that you could apply to your courses as a result of your new insights.
Explain how this change might affect your students (e.g., increase engagement, encourage collaboration, facilitate understanding).
