Study the literature on group dynamics and analyze one article according to the analysis instructions that follow. Make sure to take notes as you read, as the information contained here will be useful in later activities such as Collaborative Knowledge Mapping and Peer Learning Review.

When reading and analyzing the article, ask yourself the following questions (note: some articles do not cover all of these questions, and you are not expected to find answers to all of them):

  1. What is the author's main research question or problem?
  2. What concepts and theoretical frameworks are used to explain group dynamics?
  3. What factors does the author identify as key to group functioning (e.g., roles, communication, leadership, conflict)?
  4. How does the author explain the relationships and interactions of group members?
  5. What are the author's main findings or conclusions?
  6. How can the insights from the article be applied in an educational or professional context?
  7. Do you agree with the author's interpretation of group dynamics? Why or why not?
  8. What in the article made you think the most and how does it relate to your personal experience of working in a group?
