Constructive Alignment and Assessment

In this activity, you will focus on the fundamental principles of assessment and performance measurement in education, which are essential for understanding how data on student achievement are collected, interpreted, and used. Assessment is not just an administrative step, but an important tool for improving the quality of teaching and learning, and knowledge of its forms and methods helps teachers make reliable and fair decisions about students.

Take notes as you read, as the information contained in this section of the book will be useful in later activities (such as the Assessment Discussion), especially when planning assessment methods within your own courses and when linking learning outcomes to appropriate assessment methods.

• Dokimology: the scientific discipline that studies testing and assessment procedures and helps develop objective and reliable assessment methods

• Development of grading tables: as a tool that ensures transparency and consistency in assessment, it encourages self-regulated learning and provides students with clear criteria for success.

The goal of the activity is to develop a critical understanding of evaluation approaches through reading and taking notes and prepare you to create your own assessment instruments that are aligned with learning outcomes.
