The development of digital technologies has strongly influenced the way educational institutions operate and their organisational and pedagogical culture. Today, higher education institutions face the challenges of adapting to the information revolution, which is changing the ways of managing, teaching and communicating with students. Digital transformation is no longer just a technical issue, but also a strategic commitment that requires a change in the approaches, competencies and attitudes of all participants in the educational process. In this context, it is important to understand how educational institutions have developed during the phases of digitalisation and in what ways they respond to the contemporary needs of the knowledge society.
As part of this activity, you should therefore read the chapter "Educational Institutions and the Information Revolution" in the book by Kučina Softić, Lasić-Lazić, Odak Digital Transformation: New Approaches and Challenges in Education (pages 41 to 53). The entire book is available at the link.
While reading the chapter, take notes and pay special attention to the following terms/concepts and include them in your notes:
- information (or ICT) revolution
- openness of education
- accessibility and accessibility of the Internet (situation in the EU and the Republic of Croatia)
- digital skills and competences (situation in the EU and the Republic of Croatia).
The above notes will help you in later activities and work. If there are any open questions that you think need to be answered or analysed further, be sure to note them.
