Activity description:
In this assignment, you will work in small teams (3 to 4 members) to analyse a real-life case study of the application of artificial intelligence in differentiated education. Your goal is to explore how artificial intelligence helps adapt teaching to the diverse needs of students, the advantages and challenges of such applications, and the opportunities it creates for improving the educational process.
A case study presents a real-life situation, event, or project in which a specific technology, method, or approach is applied in practice. The aim is to understand what was done, how it was done, and with what results, and to draw lessons that can be applied in other contexts.
This is a group assignment, but in exceptional circumstances, you may complete it independently with the instructor’s approval before beginning.
The final result of your work will be a presentation created using tools that employ artificial intelligence, which you will present to other participants at the final online meeting.
In exceptional circumstances, with prior approval from the instructor, you may complete the assignment independently.
Workflow:
1. Group Formation
- Form teams of 3 to 4 members through the Group Selection activity
- Appoint a team leader to coordinate the work and communicate with the instructor.
If this is your first experience with an online group assignment, agree on a method of communication within the team (e.g., the group forum in Loomen, Google Chat, or a shared cloud document such as Google Docs).
- Tip: Open a shared document (e.g., Google Docs) where all members can enter data, share sources, and agree on the distribution of tasks.
2. Choosing a Topic
- The team leader posts a topic proposal on the Topic Selection Forum.
- In the post, briefly describe the planned case study and provide a link to the source.
- Once the instructor approves the topic, you can begin your research.
3. Researching the Case Study
-
Using online resources, find one real-world example of the application of artificial intelligence in the context of differentiated education (e.g., in schools, universities, or online learning).
-
You can use scientific articles, expert portals, webinars, educational blogs, videos, and other publicly available sources.
During your research, focus on the following questions:
- How does artificial intelligence contribute to the differentiation of teaching in the chosen study?
- What are the main advantages of applying artificial intelligence in this context?
- What challenges and limitations arise?
- What recommendations would you make to improve access?
Recommendation: Distribute roles within the team – agree on who researches the theoretical part, who analyses the specific example, and who designs the presentation.
4. Creating a Presentation
Based on your analysis, create a presentation using one of the available artificial intelligence tools:
The presentation must include:
- A title and basic information about the selected case study,
- Answers to the analytical questions (contribution of artificial intelligence, advantages, challenges),
- Conclusions and recommendations for further development of the approach.
Ensure a logical sequence of content, clarity of message, and visual coherence.
The choice of tool is not crucial, but use it to achieve a high-quality and meaningful presentation of your results.
5. Submission of Presentation
- Submit the presentation (file or link) via the "Submission of solutions" activity.
- Before submitting, check that the link is correct and functional.
- Respect the deadline set by the instructor.
- Papers submitted after the deadline will not be scored, except in justified cases with prior notice.
6. Live Presentation
- Present your work at an online meeting via the BBB videoconferencing system in Loomen, according to the schedule published by the instructor.
- All team members participate in the presentation and discussion.
- It is recommended that each person present part of the content to demonstrate their understanding of the topic and teamwork.
Note: The grade is awarded for the team's joint work, and all members receive the same grade, except in exceptional cases when the instructor determines that a particular member did not participate in the team's work.
Scoring scheme:
Your team assignment is evaluated based on two main components: the submitted work (80 % of the total grade) and participation + timely submission (20 % of the total grade).
A total of up to 5 summative points.
Grade for the submitted work – maximum of 4 points:
| Criterion | Description (what is assessed) | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance and quality of the case study | You have selected an example that clearly illustrates the use of artificial intelligence in differentiated instruction; the case study is up-to-date, well-documented, and credible. | 0.5 |
| Analysis of the contribution of artificial intelligence | You clearly explain how artificial intelligence contributes to the differentiation of teaching, with concrete examples from the case study. | 1 |
| Identification of advantages and challenges | You describe in detail the advantages and challenges, with supporting arguments and a clear link to the selected example. | 1 |
| Creativity and quality of the presentation | The presentation is visually appealing, well-structured, and clearly communicates the information. | 0.75 |
| Use of AI tools | The use of the selected AI tool’s features (Gamma, Beautiful.ai, Canva, or another) is clearly visible. | 0.75 |
Grade for participation and timely submission – maximum of 1 point.
| Criterion | Description (what is assessed) | Max. points |
|---|---|---|
| Active participation | Group members take part in the presentation and the discussion. | 0.5 |
| Timely and proper submission | The presentation is submitted in Loomen on time, and the file/link is functional. | 0.5 |
