Activity description:
In this activity, you will participate in a structured online debate on the role of artificial intelligence in education, with a focus on encouraging active learning. During the discussion, each group will defend its position with arguments – either advocating the advantages of artificial intelligence in education or highlighting its challenges and limitations.
Debate topic: “Artificial intelligence in education significantly contributes to encouraging active learning.”
Roles:
- Group “For AI in Education” – You represent the view that artificial intelligence tools offer numerous advantages and promote active learning.
- Group “Against AI in Education” – You represent the view that the use of artificial intelligence in active learning presents challenges and limitations.
Procedure:
You will be divided into two groups via the provided link: Choose a group.
The debate will take place online at a scheduled time using the BBB (Loomen) videoconferencing system.
We recommend using the Kialo Edu platform to structure your arguments.
After the debate, the instructor will summarise the conclusions and post them on the forum.
Debate rules:
Prepare arguments within your group according to your assigned role (FOR or AGAINST).
Communicate professionally, using arguments that meet academic standards.
Each group member should participate equally in the discussion.
Support your arguments with concrete examples, sources, or personal experiences.
In the final part of the debate, you may respond to the claims of the opposing group.
Note: Grading is conducted at the group level to encourage collaborative learning and shared responsibility for the outcome. The total number of points earned by the group will be awarded equally to all group members, provided that everyone participated in the preparation and execution of the activity.
If there are significant differences in individual contributions, the instructor reserves the right to adjust grades individually.
