Instructions for working with the video lesson "Reasons for Using Artificial Intelligence in Developing Teaching Resources"

Duration: 5.5 minutes

This video lesson provides insight into the reasons for using artificial intelligence in the development of teaching materials. The goal is to promote understanding of how artificial intelligence can support the adaptation of teaching to the diverse needs and abilities of students.

Learning outcomes:

  • Explain the advantages of AI in education (time savings, creativity, personalisation).
  • Recognise the reasons for using AI in the development of teaching materials.
  • Identify the advantages and limitations of AI tools and systems in education.

Before watching the video lesson, it is recommended that you review the stated learning outcomes so you know which aspects of the content to focus on.

Then watch the video lesson, which features an interview with an expert who further explains the application of artificial intelligence tools and systems in education.

As you watch the video lesson, note key terms, definitions, and examples that illustrate how AI can support personalisation in learning and teaching, as well as the role of teachers. You can take notes in your own notebook (paper and pencil) or use a digital tool of your choice.

The topic of applying AI tools will be explored in more detail in later units. If you already have experience using them, you may incorporate them into your work as you prefer – for example, to organise notes, reflect on content, or visually display relationships between concepts.

After watching the video lesson, reflect on the content presented and try to connect it to your own experiences using AI tools and systems in education.

Finally, read the conclusion below the video lesson, which summarises the main ideas and helps you check whether you have achieved the planned learning outcomes.

In this lesson, we explore how AI can support curriculum development. AI is rapidly evolving and becoming a powerful tool in education, enabling teachers to save time, enhance creativity, personalize instruction, and more.

Let us look at a few reasons why AI could become an important tool in your classroom. One key reason to use AI in education is to save time. AI can automate many routine tasks, from generating quizzes and assignments to creating summaries or even entire lesson plans. This efficiency allows teachers to focus on more important pedagogical work, such as leading discussions and interacting with students.AI can foster creativity and innovation in curriculum development. For example, AI tools can generate new ideas for assignments, projects, or research. With these tools, teachers can easily access various creative approaches – from designing tasks to creating infographics and visuals that explain abstract concepts. This makes teaching more engaging and accessible.

Personalization is another important reason to use artificial intelligence in education. AI allows you to adapt teaching to the needs of each student. For example, Curipod can automatically generate tasks of different difficulty levels or adjust the language and complexity of materials depending on a student's level of knowledge. In this way, students can learn at their own pace, which increases their motivation and engagement.

Artificial intelligence opens up numerous possibilities, but where is the limit? Can artificial intelligence be used without risk?

Assoc. Prof. TOMISLAV STIPANČIĆ, PhD:

Although it is a tool that is quite appealing to everyone, not only students but also teachers, because the technology itself – artificial intelligence – offers ready-made solutions without requiring much thought. In fact, it is necessary to approach this critically, because technology is not perfect and can actually spoil us, leading us backwards instead of forwards.

Based on your specific experiences working with artificial intelligence tools, what advantages do you see for in monitoring progress and giving feedback to students?

Assoc. Prof. TOMISLAV STIPANČIĆ, PhD:

What this technology offers is actually both synchronous and asynchronous ways of working, where you can communicate with it in real time and get very fast responses, or interact asynchronously when you have more time available to refine your query and receive an answer that closely matches your needs. So, this technology offers personalized learning, a one-on-one relationship that few other technologies provide. It offers summaries and communication. And best of all, as I already mentioned, the number of services continues to grow.

Using artificial intelligence can also help maintain the consistency and quality of educational materials. AI tools can ensure that all materials follow a uniform structure and style, reducing the possibility of human error. Grammar and spelling mistakes are easily detected, and the writing style can remain consistent across multiple lessons.

For example: With the query "Please correct the grammatical errors in my text," we can ask ChatGPT to correct the content, code, formula, and more. [ChatGPT view] This is the output generated by ChatGPT.

To determine which grammatical errors were detected, we can ask: "Please show me what you corrected in this text." And the system will provide a detailed overview.

This capability of AI tools and systems can greatly assist teachers and other stakeholders in the educational environment.AI can also help analyze student progress. Based on the results of assignments and quizzes, AI can identify areas where students are struggling and automatically offer additional resources. This gives teachers valuable insight into student needs – faster and more accurately than ever before.

In conclusion, AI is a powerful tool, but it should not replace a teacher or instructor. I invite you to consider:

What can AI help you create?

What do you need to refine manually?

How will you maintain the quality of your content and pedagogical approach?

AI offers many advantages, but its real value comes from thoughtful, ethical use supported by continuous professional reflection. We can create a wide range of educational content with the help of AI tools. Let us take another step in that direction! Greetings to everyone!

Conclusion:

Artificial intelligence offers many advantages in creating educational content, including saving time, increasing creativity, and personalising lessons. By using AI, teachers can improve the quality of instruction, but maintaining a balance between automation and human interaction is essential.
