Exploring Assessment Rubrics

Steps in Creating Rubrics:

1. linking assessment with learning outcomes
2. defining assessment criteria based on the planned learning outcomes
3. evaluating the relative weights of individual criteria
4. establishing performance levels for each criterion and assigning score ranges for each level
5. writing descriptors for each criterion and its performance levels
6. piloting the rubric using examples of student work
7. reflecting on and adapting the rubric.
