Gamification

Gamification is the application of concepts specific to the gaming domain in a context where these concepts are not common, i.e. in domains that are not an integral, natural or implied part of the gaming domain such as the teaching process, with the aim of increasing student engagement. Commonly used elements include badges, levels to be crossed or reached, leaderboards, charts of (one's) progress, rewards (mostly virtual), and challenges to be overcome (during learning).
